NJ IDRC County programs

NJ IDRC County programs Intoxicated Driver Program (IDP)

Any person convicted of an alcohol related traffic offense must participate in a program at an Intoxicated Driving Resource Center (IDRC):
  • New Jersey has an IDRC in each county for first and third-time offenders and three regional centers for second-time offenders
  • During the program, offenders attend mandatory Alcohol and Highway Safety Education courses
  • IDRC also evaluates each offender for an alcohol or drug problem and determines the need for treatment
  • If treatment is needed, the offender must complete a 16-week minimum treatment
  • IDRC monitors compliance and reports noncompliance to the courts and IDP. IDP makes recommendation to the MVC for suspension or restoration based on the offender’s successful completion of conviction requirements.
Satisfactory participation in IDRC is a step toward restoring your license. Failure to comply will result in further license suspension and possible jail time.

IDRC fees and other related charges may apply:
Charge Paid To
$100 attendance fee MVC
$264 first offender fee IDRC
$321 second offender fee IDRC
$100 license restoration fee MVC

Middlesex Intoxicated Driver Resource Center (IDRC)

Middlesex Intoxicated Driver Resource Center (IDRC)
The Intoxicated Driver Resource Center (IDRC) is a unit under the Division of Addictions and Mental Health Planning in the Office of Human Services.  The IDRC is responsible for providing the two-day educational/screening program for persons convicted of various statutes pertaining to operating  under the influence, refusal of the breathalyzer, underage drinking, drunk boating and fatal emergent accident.  Each person in the program is responsible for paying the program fee of a $230 money order.  Failure to abide by IDRC recommendations results in the issuance of a noncompliance report to the sentencing court, and the possibility of a minimum two-day jail sentence with further license suspension.

Every attendee is interviewed and screened by a professional counselor with a CADC certification or LCADC license.  Based on the screening score, driving record and self-reporting during the interview, an attendee may be referred to the following:
• ASAM- PPC-2-R Assessment (further alcohol/drug evaluation)
• Self-help
• No referral for continued monitoring

The educational program consists of some of the following topics:
• Laws and Penalties
• Alcohol and Other Drugs and their Effects
• Use Abuse and Addiction
• Alternatives to High Risk Behavior
• MADD Victim Impact Panel
• Self Help Resources
• AIDS -- Facts and Community Resources
• Aggressive Driving/Road Rage/ Distracted Driving
